C is for Carl Sagan

Twenty-Six Days of Creative Inspiration

In the Cosmos television series, Carl Sagan opened the universe for me. His passion for,"billions and billions of stars," awakened my future science fiction writer self.

I fell in love with his fiction story, Contact, in both its novel and movie incarnations. I agree wholeheartedly with Carl's philosophy about the possibility of extraterrestrial intelligence.

"But I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space."

  1. I am not a big sic fi fan at all, but the movie (haven't read the book)) CONTACT really grabbed me and I actually bought it as a gift for a couple of people!

  2. Love this post! Carl Sagan is awesome. The film version of Contact is very good, but the novel is even better. I especially love what Sagan does with Pi, and divinity, near the end.

  3. I'm decidedly undecided on the question of whether extraterrestrial life exists. I certainly believe it's possible. C. S. Lewis did too. He wrote a "space trilogy" about it.

  4. Ohh I love this post! I adore Carl Sagan and am totally obsessed with the film Contact! I saw it for the first time a couple of months ago and have watched it several times since. My flatmate is an astronomer, so she often takes me outside to look at the stars and planets!

Thank you for such a lovely post and for your comment yesterday :)

  6. I preferred the book version of Contact over the movie. But man, Jodi Foster can act!

  14. I was introduced to the movie adaptation of Contact before I ever knew it was a novel. I really enjoyed the movie and the various themes eluded to throughout the movie.

I don't know of it would just be a waste of space of just a certain level of cockiness that with all the space out there, it could really just be us. Putting it that way also seems a bit lonely.

  15. I love space and all its mysteries. I haven't read Contact- but I loved the movie. I have to book on my shelf- maybe I should dust it off and give it a try. :)

  16. You and I really are long lost twins. I love Contact!!! Carl Sagan was a professor at my university, Cornell, though I never could get into his class - it filled up too quickly :( But I had a friend who got in and would share the essay subjects she was required to write about. Heady stuff!
