First Draft Love

Raise your hand if you agree...

...Starting a new WIP is like falling in love.

After months of

 researching

plotting

planning

documenting/analyzing

I'm 20K words into my new best friend and it's bliss.
Despite all my "upfront" work,
(a friend said my room looks like the set of "A Beautiful Mind" without the string)
I'm still reveling in the sheer joy of discovery a first draft brings.

(Make no mistake, string will appear once revising starts.)

Status Update: In a relationship with my WIP.

Write on, friends! XO

  1. Love it!!!! I'm trying an outline for the 1st time (and I'm scared!!!!). I envy you and your plotting skills. I wish my brain worked that way :)

    1. I'm always a plotter, but this is the most extensive prep I've ever done. I was scared it would stifle discoveries, but it has actually given surprises a better launching pad. Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

  2. There's something intoxicating about a new manuscript that you're really into.
What color string will you use?

  3. That's awesome that your draft is going so well. For me, I'm used to revising more so don't love the blank page. But my new one is going good too. When I write.

  4. Sounds like your new relationship is going very well! I like thinking about the first draft as a new relationship. Great idea! :)
