Take a second to think about writers you know, like the critique partner who works with you to improve your manuscript. The writing friend who listens, supports and keeps you strong when times are tough. The author who generously offers council, advice and inspiration when asked.
So many people take the time to make us feel special, don't they? They comment on our blogs, re-tweet our posts, chat with us on forums and wish us Happy Birthday on Facebook.
Kindness ROCKS!
To commemorate the release of their book The Emotion Thesaurus, Becca and Angela at The Bookshelf Muse are hosting a TITANIC Random Act Of Kindness BLITZ. And because I think KINDNESS is contagious, I'm participating too!
I am choosing the library staff of our local high school. They do so much to put awesome books into the hands of our teens despite the devastating budget cuts to education. For my RAOK gift, I'm donating two copies of John Green's amazing The Fault in Our Stars.
Don't forget your local elementary, junior high, and high school libraries when you're cleaning out your bookshelves.
Do you know someone special that you'd like to randomly acknowledge? Don't be shy--come join us and celebrate! Send them an email, give them a shout out, or show your appreciation in another way. Kindness makes the world go round. :)
Becca and Angela have a special RAOK gift waiting for you as well, so hop on over to The Bookshelf Muse to pick it up.
Have you ever participated in or been the recipient of a Random Act Of Kindness? Let me know in the comments!
Woot for libraries!!! You are awesome, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea, and new to me on blogs. I am SO HAPPY with whom you have chosen to give your kind gift to. School librarians are so deserving!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great choice, Leslie. I'll add my applause to those school librarians, too!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great choice of a gift. Thanks for spreading the love, Leslie!
ReplyDeleteBecca @ The Bookshelf Muse
Awesome choice! Libraries don't get enough praise these days. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a choice that will pay the benefits forward to each student able to check out and read that book...which I've heard nothing but wonderful news about.
ReplyDeleteI love my local library. You and many others made me feel special last week. :) Our blogosphere community rocks.
ReplyDeleteAwesome choice! Libraries are such special places - they need those new, awesome books! :)
ReplyDeleteThey were so surprised to get the donation. With the ugly school budgets lately, inventories become dated and the kids are missing out on terrific current titles. If you finish a hard cover YA - give it a new home at the high school library.
ReplyDeleteYAY LIBRARIANS! Ours are quite fabulous as well. :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your choice for the library donation. The kids at that school are super lucky.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a great idea, Leslie! :D
ReplyDelete<3 libraries. It's so awesome of you to donate to yours to show them some love. I really ought to do that too *adds it to the to-do list*

Aw, what a great idea! I'm going to try to keep this in mind the rest of the day.

(my creative writing blog)
I received RAOK from http://soyoureawriter.blogspot.com/Carrie Butler yesterday. She not only mentioned my name, but she built me a beautiful header for my blog, and stated where everyone could buy my books. I was blown away. People like Carrie make my heart overflow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I'm clicking over to learn more. Thanks =)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great RAOK~ I'm reading The Fault in Our Stars now and LOVING it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome RAOK! And that novel, The Fault in Our Stars--amazing. So many readers will benefit in a big way from your act of kindness.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I have heard such great things about The Fault in Our Stars. I think it is terrific that you are showing your RAOK to libraries. Yeah!
ReplyDelete~Jess
What a great act of kindness! I think that's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThey're building a new high school near me, so I'm going to donate my books to them.
ReplyDeleteThe Fault in Our Stars in on my TBR list. I'm going to buy it with my mother's day gift--once I've made a dent in my TBR pile. :D
What a great idea. I've seen this around, but haven't participated yet. I'll have to try to do something. That's awesome that you donated the books. I'm sure they appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAs a former high school librarian, this just warms my heart! So glad you appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteCaryn, I'm definitely going to make this a habit. There are too many wonderful books out there that the kids who really need to read them might miss. Librarians were always and still are magical beings to me.
DeleteGreat post, Leslie. I'm so glad you have an awesome library and that you're donating two copies of a fantastic book to them.
ReplyDeleteKindness does rock.
I've been reading about RAOK all over. Sounds such a great act!
ReplyDeleteRiya
I love these RAOK! I've seen other bloggers doing them too. I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Kreativ Blogger Award. You can stop by my blog, Gone Gardening, to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteI don't think libraries would want my books because I mark them all up when I like something. :)
ReplyDeleteBut still a great idea!
Kindness does make the world go round. In my book, it does.
ReplyDeleteWhat would we do without our librarians!?! Great choice! They sound awesome:)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, Leslie! I'm sure they'll appreciate that!!
ReplyDeleteI bet the librarians were thrilled!! Awesome choice!
ReplyDeleteDonating to the library is a wonderful idea! Thanks for posting on my site.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea to donate to the libraries. They would be thrilled to get more books for their shelves.
ReplyDeleteI love this kindess blitz - what a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I used to work in an elementary school library. It was the best job ever! My favorite part was reading story books to the kids. So much fun!
ReplyDeleteLibrary staff rock! Today I get to volunteer at my kids' elementary school Book Fair. I've done it every year and it's one of my favorite things to do at school. I get to hang out with the librarian, as well as help kids choose books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your inspiring posts and your thoughtful comments on my blog! (My own little bit of random kindness.)
It seems like RAOK really rocked the blogiverse over the last week...
ReplyDeleteWell done, Leslie - such a generous thing to do...
This is such a great idea! Donating new books to the library, remembering librarians, you know I think public libraries are just an amazingly awesome and underappreciated thing!
